Burgundy Diamond Mines has trained and experienced graders who independently review each diamond to minimise subjective bias and to reach consensus. The color and clarity grades are only finalised when all graders agree.
Diamond color grading, while standardized, is inherently subjective because it relies on human perception and interpretation. While grading labs strive for objectivity, the ability to discern subtle color variations and the influence of factors like lighting and diamond shape, mean grading can vary slightly between individuals and laboratories.
In fact, laboratories like IGI and GIA have tried to use machines like spectrometers in order to grade the color of colored diamonds. Nevertheless, all have failed; first because diamonds are 3D objects, and then because the modifier depends on the external light. Moreover, transparency and refraction make the use of machines extremely difficult.
